How Pet Prepared NZ works
Unexpected events can happen. Learn how Pet Prepared NZ gives you peace of mind, knowing your pets will be looked after even if you can't get home. It's simple, secure, and essential for every pet owner in New Zealand.
Step 1: Make your plan
Choose the trusted people you would want to care for your pets if you couldn't get home. These are your nominated contacts who will step in during an emergency.
Step 2: Prepare your information
Complete a Pet Information Form for each pet, detailing their needs, habits, and any medical information. Also, fill out your Household Emergency Plan to provide clear instructions for your contacts.
Step 3: Set up secure access
Install your secure key lockbox and place your spare house key inside, along with the access card (This has a reminder for where the Pet/Household Information is located, alarm code if required and total number of pets). This ensures your nominated contacts can access your property safely when needed.
Step 4: Give your contacts their information
Your nominated contacts receive the lockbox location and code, along with a brief overview of the pets at your property and your emergency instructions. This ensures they have all the necessary details.
Step 5: If you are unable to get home
In an emergency, a nominated contact can access your key, enter the property, and follow the instructions you've prepared, ensuring your pets are cared for immediately.
Step 6: Let others know pets are cared for
The door tag provides a simple visual handover if normal communication isn't possible, informing emergency services or neighbours that your pets are being looked after by your nominated contact.
